Our slogan above represents our purpose as a church. We want to be a church which is anchored in the everlasting truth of the Bible. Over and over, we are reminded that God’s Word will never fade away, and we must hold fast to it as our foundation. Within the bounds of its truth, we desire to grow together in spiritual maturity, in love for one another and the community where we live, and in the ability to reach others with the gospel message. We hope that you will consider the opportunity to grow with us!
The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God.
(2 Tim 3:15-17, 1 Thess 2:13, 2 Peter 1:21)
There is one God, who eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
(Deut 6:4, Isa 43:10-11, Matt 28:18-20, Luke 3:22)
Jesus Christ our Lord came as a man yet was 100% God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and performed miracles. We believe in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years.
(Matt 1:23, Luke 1:31-32, Acts 10:37-38, Acts 2:22, Heb 7:26-27, 1 Cor 15:3-5, 2 Cor 5:21-6:1, Matt 28:6, Luke 24:39, 1 Cor 15:4-6, Acts 1:9-11, Phil 2:9-11, Heb 1:3)
The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ.
(John 3:16-17, Acts 2:21, Acts 4:12, Rom 3:23, Rom 5:8, Rom 6:23, Rom 10:9-10, Rom 10:13, Eph 2:8-9, 2 Cor 5:21, Heb 9:28)
We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
(Rom 10:12-13, Eph 2:8-10, Titus 2:11, Titus 3:4-8, Rom 8:16, Eph 4:24, Titus 2:12)
There is a blessed hope – the rapture of the Church at Christ’s coming.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and other to everlasting damnation.

Since 1956, Griffith Baptist Church has served Griffith, Indiana and the surrounding area as an independent Baptist church, but how did it all begin?
The first mention of having a Baptist church in Griffith can be found in a resolution passed by the First Baptist Church in Hammond, Indiana, on October 21st, 1953. After surveying the town of Griffith, 43 persons met for Sunday School and church service at the American Legion Hall on the first Sunday of 1954. That summer, after holding their first Vacation Bible School, this group began to form into a church body desiring separation from the Hammond church. With Reverend Tietjen acting as their first pastor, groundbreaking services were held in March of 1955. While the building program was in process, Reverend Reynolds took over as pastor of this group.
Early in February of 1956, this group discontinued their membership from the First Baptist Church of Hammond. Later that month, on February 27th, the church was issued incorporation papers by the state under the name of the First Baptist Church of Griffith, Inc. After much debate amongst this new church, those that desired to be affiliated as Conservative Baptist left the church and formed their own First Baptist Church of Griffith. Those that were left chose to be unaffiliated with any Baptist associations and re-incorporated early in April 1956. Finally, on April 11, 1956, this group of 53 persons changed their name to Griffith Baptist Church and were led by interim pastor Dr. Lloyd Perry.
At 3:00 pm on the afternoon of Sunday, August 5th, 1956, the dedication service was held for our current building. Shortly after this dedication ceremony, the church took another step to secure their independence and brought on Dewey Moore as full time Pastor.
For the next 35 years, Griffith Baptist continued to grow and brought on more staff and ministries. With this growth came a new back parking area, new multi-purpose building, and official dedication of additional add-ons to the building on June 7th, 1992.
Griffith Baptist Church has served in Lake County, Indiana for over 65 years and has played a key role in the starting of several other Baptist churches in Griffith, Indiana. Through the highs and lows, God used Griffith Baptist and is still working today. We invite you to come visit us today and see God working!
